Step into a serene and authentic Japanese tea room and explore the art of tea with a certified tea master. In this hands-on cultural experience, you’ll taste rare teas, learn to whisk your own matcha, and leave with a certificate to commemorate your journey into Japan’s centuries-old tea traditions.
Welcome to Ocharu Tea Ceremony, an elegant tea salon nestled in Bunkyo, just across from Tokyo University. This one-hour tea experience is perfect for those wanting to explore authentic Japanese culture through taste, ritual, and tradition.
Begin with a cup of Wakocha, a rare Japanese black tea from Shizuoka, paired with a delicate tea cake. Your host will introduce the story of this unique tea, setting the tone for a peaceful, immersive session.
Next, witness the brewing of Gyokuro sencha, Japan’s highest grade green tea. Accompanied by seasonal wagashi sweets from the long-established Ougiya confectioner, this tasting offers a refined balance of flavor and form.
Then comes the highlight: whisking your own matcha. Under the expert guidance of a trained tea master, you’ll use traditional tools to prepare matcha from scratch—an art form in itself.
To end the session, enjoy a warm cup of Genmaicha (green tea with roasted rice from Niigata Prefecture), bringing the experience to a comforting close.
Before leaving, receive a certificate of completion and a commemorative photo to remember your journey through Japan’s tea traditions.
This tea ceremony is welcoming to all—solo travelers, couples, and small groups—and offers an ideal introduction to Japanese hospitality, mindfulness, and craft.
