Overview

The legendary psychological drama One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest returns to the Japanese stage in the summer of 2026 under the prestigious PARCO PRODUCE banner. This highly anticipated production is directed by the visionary Suzuki Matsuo and features a powerhouse cast led by Shotaro Mamiya and Ryota Bando, alongside seasoned performers like Noriko Eguchi and Sarutoki Minagawa. The story delves deep into the tensions of a psychiatric ward, where the rebellious Randle McMurphy challenges the cold, authoritarian rule of Nurse Ratched.

This adaptation of Ken Kesey’s masterpiece serves as a commemorative event for the 40th anniversary of the Ehime Prefectural Civic Cultural Center and travels to major venues across Japan. The production is known for its visceral energy and sharp social commentary, exploring the thin line between sanity and non-conformity. Theatergoers should be advised that the performance is expected to include realistic depictions of the era, including scenes featuring smoking on stage to maintain the atmospheric integrity of the original work.
