The Story of Chicago and the 30th Anniversary Japan Tour
First premiering on Broadway in 1975 and brilliantly revived in 1996 under the direction of Walter Bobbie with choreography by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse, Chicago Musical Japan Tickets stands as one of the longest-running and most decorated American musicals in history. Set against the decadent backdrop of Prohibition-era Illinois during the 1920s, the musical tells the story of Roxie Hart, a chorus girl who murders her unfaithful lover, and Velma Kelly, a nightclub dancer serving time for a double homicide. Both women navigate the sensationalist press and the corrupt judicial system in a ruthless pursuit of public fame and acquittal.
The 30th Anniversary Tour brings this dark satire of crime and celebrity culture to Japanese audiences in its original English-language format. The production features classic numbers including “All That Jazz,” “Cell Block Tango,” and “Razzle Dazzle,” executed with the sharp lines, bowler hats, and seductive physicality that define Bob Fosse’s legendary style.
A primary highlight of the 2026 Japan engagement is the casting of British star Bradley Jaden as Billy Flynn. Known internationally for his acclaimed portrayals of Inspector Javert and Enjolras in Les Misérables, Fiyero in Wicked, and Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera, Jaden stepped into the role of Flynn following his celebrated appearance in Japan during the Les Misérables World Tour Spectacular. His portrayal brings a refined West End vocal power and commanding stage presence to the suave, media-manipulating lawyer who turns courtrooms into theatrical circuses.
