The Saxon Vocal Ensemble is touring to celebrate its 30th anniversary in Kanagawa and will give the Japanese audience a rare opportunity to experience its famous choral sound. Founded in Germany, the ensemble has built a solid reputation over three decades with thoughtful phrasing, balanced harmonies, and expressive performances. The group does not just play familiar works; they take a thoughtful approach to each piece, with each vocal line clear but a rich overall sound. Conductor Matthias Jung directs the anniversary performance with precision and sensitivity. His direction helps the singers move smoothly through complex polyphonic passages while keeping the emotional character of each work intact. In addition, narrator Kazuo Fujino will provide spoken introductions that help audiences understand the background and meaning behind the selected repertoire.

Saxon Vocal Ensemble Tickets Program Highlights
The Saxon Vocal Ensemble has prepared a program that travels through several important periods of German choral music. The concert begins with Heinrich Schütz’s German Magnificat. My heart, worship the Lord, which reflects the expressive character of early Baroque music. The program then moves to two well-known motets by Johann Sebastian Bach, Come, Jesus, come, and Sing a new song to the Lord. These demanding works are a testament to the vocal control and the ability of the ensemble to tackle intricate musical architectures. Romantic-era selections such as Robert Schumann’s The King of Thule. Felix Mendelssohn’s Autumn Song from his Six Duets add another dimension to the evening. The ensemble will also perform a special arrangement of the traditional song Sakura Sakura to establish a meaningful connection with the Japanese audiences. This means that the concert blends European musical heritage with a known piece from Japan.
