The Story: A Meeting of Intellect, Sensibility, and Young Virtuosity

Founded in 1911 the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra is Japans symphonic group. It is knowing for delivering quality classical music that mixes Eastern style with Western tradition. For this two-night event the orchestra invites the brilliant French conductor Lionel Bringuier. Lionel Bringuier is famous around the world for his orchestral sound, clear direction and lively interpretations. Of playing only popular classics Lionel Bringuier has chosen a program that mixes deep thought with strong feeling. I look forward to seeing how the orchestra brings these pieces together.

During two evenings listeners will hear classic pieces reworked together with new modern works by the popular composer Alexei Scholl. The first night pairs Tchaikovskys The Nutcracker Suite with Stravinskys raw 1919 suite from The Firebird. In the middle of the evening Scholls Double Concerto for Violin and Cello is playing by the Belgian violinist Marc Bushkov and the young French cellist Edgar Moreau. Both are quickly gaining fame on the classical stage. I am excited to hear how the new works match the classics.

The second evening focuses on city rhythm and bright stories with Paul Dukass playful The Sorcerers Apprentice and George Gershwins jazz style piece An American, in Paris. The highlight of that night is Scholls Violin Concerto No. 7 Performed by the young violinist Simon Tzeu. I hope the city rhythms and bright stories will capture your imagination.

Together these concerts show a moment where top conductors, leading Japanese musicians and international young stars shape the future of classical music. I believe these concerts mark a turning point in music.
