It shows us the lives of artists, poets and musicians who deal with love, passion being poor and sad loss. This story about dreams and sad goodbyes is actually what inspired Jonathan Larson to write the famous musical RENT.
For this 2027 show the Tokyo Nikikai Opera Theatre has hired the famous director Amon Miyamoto. Amon Miyamoto has worked over the world in both musicals and grand opera. Amon Miyamoto has directed shows like The Marriage of Figaro Così fan tutte, The Magic Flute, Madama Butterfly, Parsifal and The Temple of the Golden Pavilion. The way Amon Miyamoto directs brings a lot of energy to Italian opera and helps us see the deep feelings of the lovers in Puccini’s La Bohème.
Clélia Caffiero will lead the music for this production. The cast features some of the singers from Japan. For the opening night in Yokosuka and some dates in Tokyo tenor Kohei Yamamoto and soprano Lee Soon-jae will play Rodolfo and Mimì. They will take turns singing with tenor Hironori Jo and soprano Shiori Moriki. The music will sound amazing because the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra is playing, along with the Nikikai Chorus and the NHK Tokyo Childrens Chorus. The show is in the Italian but you can read the words in Japanese and English on the screens. It is going to be a night, for anyone who loves opera.
