From there, we explore the atmospheric Gion district, known for its preserved Kyoto-style buildings and occasional geisha sightings. Your local guide will take you to a hidden, traditional restaurant where you’ll sample Kyoto-style appetizers such as obanzai (Kyoto home cooking), oden (Japanese hot pot), or yuba (tofu skin), paired with local Japanese sake.
At this stop, enjoy Kiki sake, a tasting flight of three different Kyoto-produced sake varieties. Your guide will explain the unique qualities of each, enhancing your appreciation of Kyoto’s regional brewing traditions.
After savoring savory dishes and sake, continue the tour through the lantern-lit streets of Pontocho to a local café, where you’ll finish the evening with a traditional Kyoto dessert in a beautifully preserved teahouse.

Rika was an excellent tour guide, who facilitated great conversations between us all. The food spots also felt local and authentic.
More info about Gion & Pontocho during the tour would have been nice.
Mayu was our guide and she was wonderful. She provided a lot of history and context to Gion and it felt like going for dinner with a good friend. There were 3 children and 4 adults on our tour. While the kids were well-behaved, I think I would have enjoyed the evening more if it had been an adults-only group.
