Hanabi Koshien is the fireworks competition held in Aichi Prefecture. The 6th Hanabi Koshien at Laguna Beach in Gamagori is one of the events in central Japan where fireworks companies from across the country are scored against one another. Local volunteers founded Hanabi Koshien so that Aichi audiences could see the large-scale displays usually associated with prefectures. The name borrows from the high-school baseball tournament at Koshien signalling a contest for the title of the best.
Competition fireworks differ from a summer festival. Each company is introduce as its display is launched and each presents its work, including large shakudama shells and music-synchronized star mines within rules on shell size and quantity. Spectators therefore see a showcase of technique rather than the programme of a single company.
Hanabi Koshien held its edition in 2019. The 2020 and 2021 editions were cancelle. The contest returned in 2022. The 5th edition took place on 29 November 2025 at the same seaside venue. Laguna Beach is usually a beach and an open green space next to a resort complex. Hanabi Koshien changes the shoreline into a viewing area with seats and open spaces. The total number of people that can be there is still to be confirm. The way the viewing areas are set up might change. Tripods are not allowe outside the photography area.
In Gamagori the closest train station is Mikawa-Otsuka Station on the JR Tokaido Line. It is 9 minutes by local bus or around 20 minutes on foot. Gamagori Station on the JR Tokaido Line has a free shuttle bus that takes about 15 minutes. Details about the shuttle are still to be confirm.
