Full Experience Description

Your journey begins at Shin-Kawasaki Station, where you’ll meet your friendly English-speaking guide. From there, you’ll walk to a real sumo training stable used by professional rikishi (sumo wrestlers) until 2022.

Start your experience with a guided tour of the facility, including the training ring, dining hall, and bathing area. Your guide will explain the traditions, lifestyle, and discipline that define sumo culture in Japan.

Next, take your seat beside the ring and watch as the wrestlers go through their intense morning practice. See up-close how they warm up, train, and perform classic sumo exercises.

Then, it’s your turn—learn the basic sumo movements and rules, and for those who are willing, enter the ring and face off against a real sumo wrestler in a fun, safe match. It’s not about winning—it’s about having the courage to try and the memory you’ll take home.

After the match, head to the communal dining area where you’ll help prepare chanko-nabe, the protein-rich stew that wrestlers eat to gain strength. Make chicken dumplings with the sumo wrestlers, and sit down to eat together, chatting and asking questions about sumo life. You’ll also have the chance to take photos, get autographs, and make memorial handprints with the wrestlers.

This is more than a tour—it’s a cultural deep dive into a world few outsiders get to see.

Reviews from Past Guests

“Guides Charlie and Mayu were incredibly informative and friendly. The wrestlers were surprisingly funny and kind—it was such a special and welcoming atmosphere.”

“I loved this. The sumo match, the food, the laughs. Truly unforgettable. Highly recommended!”

“Trying on the sumo belt and stepping into the ring was surreal. And the lunch after? Delicious and wholesome. The only downside was the sales pitch at the end, but it wasn’t too pushy.”
