It was started in 1990 by a man named Masaaki Suzuki, who’s a conductor, an organ player and a harpsichord player. The group was created with a goal, which was to show people in Japan the way music was played during the baroque period. After than thirty years Bach Collegium Japan has become famous all over the world. One of their important achievements is a full set of recordings of the church cantatas by J.S. Bach. For the regular concert and the 95th volume of their famous Church Cantata Series Masaaki Suzuki conducts the choir and the orchestra that uses old-style instruments. They are performing “The Seven Words on the Cross I.” This performance takes a look, at the music traditions of the Lutheran church.
