Product Details / Description

The Canon EOS R50 is designed to make high-quality photography and videography accessible to everyone. Its compact size and user-friendly interface are supported by visual guides, allowing even those new to mirrorless cameras to quickly master the controls and focus on their trip.

About the Product

The core strength of the R50 lies in its autofocus system. The EOS iTR AF X technology uses deep learning to identify and track subjects reliably across eight different AF areas. This means whether you are photographing a quiet temple or filming the busy street crossings in Shibuya, the focus will remain locked onto your subject.

For video, the R50 is highly capable, offering uncropped 4K 30p footage for high-definition results. The unique “Review Video Mode” is a boon for solo travelers and vloggers, ensuring the focus remains on the person closest to the camera. While the camera lacks in-body image stabilization (IBIS), it supports Movie Digital IS (electronic stabilization), which works with stabilized lenses to deliver steady footage.

Faqs:

Since this is a “body only” rental, what type of lens do I need?

The Canon EOS R50 uses the RF mount. You will need to rent an RF or RF-S lens. For travel, we recommend a compact zoom like the RF-S 18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM for its portability, or an RF-S 18-150mm for maximum versatility.

The camera is very light. Does that mean it feels cheap?

While the R50 is exceptionally lightweight (approx. 328g), it is built to Canon’s quality standards. The focus is on making it highly portable for travelers. Its small size is a major advantage for all-day carrying and discreet shooting.

Since there is no IBIS, how do I get stable video footage?

Stable footage is achieved by using the camera’s built-in Movie Digital IS (electronic image stabilization), which works effectively when combined with any stabilized lens (those with “IS” in their name) to compensate for minor handheld shakes.

Is the 4K video recording truly uncropped?

Yes, the 4K 30p video is generated from 6K oversampling without a crop, utilizing the full width of the APS-C sensor. This is a significant advantage, especially for wide-angle shooting and vlogging.

How quickly can I transfer my photos to my smartphone?

The camera features built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. By using the free Canon Camera Connect app, you can easily establish a connection to automatically transfer images to your smartphone for quick sharing on social media or for immediate backup.
