About the Festival

The Chikugo River Fireworks Festival is a historic and beloved summer tradition in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture. First held in 1650 as a dedication to Suitengu Shrine, it is the final event of the city’s Water Festival and has grown into the largest fireworks display in Western Japan.
