Overview

Based on the bestselling novel Rogai no Hito (The Elderly Harmful Person) by the late Makiko Uchidate, this production is a sharp, witty “revenge entertainment” drama reading. The story tackles the social phenomenon of “Rogai” (interference or nuisance caused by the elderly) with humor and heart. It follows Fukutaro, a retired company president whose constant boasting and nagging have alienated his family and former employees. His life changes when he meets a mysterious woman, sparking a spirited “counterattack” by senior citizens who refuse to be sidelined by society.

Faqs

What exactly is a “Drama Reading” (朗読劇)?

In Japan, this is a popular format where actors perform while holding a script. Unlike a standard reading, these productions often include full costumes, lighting, sound effects, and, in this case, live musical accompaniment to create a complete theatrical experience.

Is there a strict age limit for this performance?

Yes, preschool-aged children are not permitted to enter the theater. This ensures an undisturbed environment for the actors and the audience during the dialogue-heavy reading.

How do I handle wheelchair access?

Wheelchair users should purchase their tickets through our service first. Once secured, you must contact the designated organizer (Sunrise Promotion) in advance to ensure a wheelchair space is reserved for you at the venue.

Will I be able to understand the show if I don’t speak Japanese?

As a drama reading, the performance relies heavily on spoken dialogue and wordplay. While the physical performances and live music are engaging, international visitors may find it helpful to familiarize themselves with the premise of the novel beforehand.

Is there any chance of a refund if a performer is absent?

According to standard Japanese theater policy, tickets cannot be changed, canceled, or refunded once purchased, unless the entire performance is canceled by the organizer.
