The festival showcases 800,000 moss phlox (shibazakura) plants spread across 2.4 hectares of land. The plants create beautiful displays of pink and other colors, and the flowers are arranged around Ryujin Pond, which is said to be home to a tamed dragon in local legend. The backdrop of Mt. Fuji adds to the picturesque views, though whether you’ll see the mountain depends on the weather.
It’s recommended to allow about 2 hours to explore the festival grounds, which gives enough time to take in the scenery, enjoy a meal, and take a break.
Tarps are not allowed, and visitors cannot enter the flower fields. However, there are picnic tables and food trucks on-site, and a café offering indoor and terrace seating for those who want to relax and have a meal.
The festival is located near other popular attractions, such as:
While the festival is beautiful, it can be crowded, especially on weekends, with long lines for buses, food, and other services. Despite the crowds, the stunning views of Mt. Fuji and the vibrant flower displays make it a rewarding experience. For a less crowded alternative, consider visiting the Chichibu Shibazakura Festival in Saitama Prefecture.
For a stress-free experience, consider booking a one-day tour from Tokyo that includes entry to the Fuji Shibazakura Festival, along with other nearby attractions like strawberry picking, a visit to the Saiko Iyashi no Sato traditional village, and a trip to Lake Yamanakako.
The festival is located in the highlands, so it can still be chilly in April and May. Check the weather forecast before you go and dress accordingly.
For the latest updates, including schedule changes or event cancellations, always check the official festival website before your visit.
