Full Description

Kyoto is renowned for its shrines and temples, but the Gion district reveals an even more mysterious and elegant side of the city—the world of the geisha. This guided cultural walk offers you the rare opportunity to uncover the customs, history, and everyday life of the women who have upheld this centuries-old tradition.

The first part of the tour takes you on a 1.5-hour walking tour through Gion. Led by a knowledgeable local guide, you’ll explore the alleyways, teahouses, and preserved wooden buildings where geisha still work and live today. Learn the background of geiko (Kyoto’s word for geisha) and Maiko (apprentice geisha), the rigorous training they undergo, and the symbolism behind their attire.

The second part of the tour brings you face-to-face with a real Maiko, where you’ll witness a live dance performance and take part in an interactive Q&A session. Gain insight into her life and journey in this elite profession. Depending on your booking time, you’ll share:

  • Lunch (if booked at 10:30 AM)
  • Tea and sweets (if booked at 2:30 PM)
  • Dinner with a sampling of eight traditional dishes (if booked at 6:30 PM)

This experience offers an authentic and unforgettable glimpse into Kyoto’s cultural heart.
