  • Learn the philosophy of wabi-sabi and its deep connection to tea culture
  • Experience an authentic tea ceremony and enjoy matcha with a seasonal sweet

Full Description

In Japan, tea ceremony is not simply about drinking tea—it is a meditative practice that reflects the inner beauty found in nature and simplicity. This tour offers a unique opportunity to understand this perspective through walking, observing, and experiencing.

Kyoto is one of the best places to explore this tradition, as it is rich in history, art, and the aesthetics of wabi-sabi—a concept celebrating transience and imperfection.

Guided by a local expert who understands the philosophy behind tea culture, you will walk through central Kyoto, visiting a renowned matcha shop, a traditional pottery store, and the city’s oldest Zen temple. Along the way, you’ll see original Japanese artworks, karesansui (dry rock gardens), and traditional tea utensils.

At the end of the tour, you’ll participate in a formal tea ceremony, led by a tea master. Choose your tea bowl, enjoy a handcrafted Japanese sweet, and immerse yourself in the mindful art of tea preparation. You’ll come away not just with knowledge, but with a feeling—an appreciation of wabi-sabi that will stay with you long after the tour ends.
