Full Description

Start your morning at 8:30 AM from Kyoto Station, ready to dive into centuries of rich history and culture.

Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji)

Kinkaku-ji, or the Golden Pavilion, is one of Kyoto’s most iconic landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Originally a 14th-century shogun’s villa, the temple is known for its top two floors completely covered in gold leaf. Reflecting over a tranquil pond, it’s a truly breathtaking sight. Learn about the history, symbolism, and architectural brilliance of this Zen Buddhist temple.

Nijo Castle

Step into the world of feudal Japan at Nijo Castle, another UNESCO-listed treasure. Here you’ll hear the fascinating stories of shoguns, samurai, and the shifting power between military rulers and the emperor. Walk across the famous “nightingale floors,” designed to chirp underfoot as an early warning system. Admire Edo-period architecture and intricate interior details while uncovering the beginnings of Japan’s modernization.

Nishiki Market

End the tour with a stroll through Nishiki Market, often called “Kyoto’s Kitchen.” This lively five-block arcade hosts over 100 shops and stalls offering fresh seafood, traditional sweets, local produce, kitchenware, and more. Your guide will explain the history of the market before letting you explore at your own pace and enjoy lunch. With plenty of English signage, you’ll feel right at home navigating this culinary haven.

The tour ends around 12:30 PM at the entrance of Nishiki Market.
