Full Description

The Nada district in Kobe is the birthplace of Japanese sake and remains the top sake-producing area in the country. With over 26 breweries, it offers a rich mix of tradition, flavor, and craftsmanship. This guided walking tour introduces you to both well-established and lesser-known breweries, while letting you enjoy safe, paced drinking — ideal even during Japan’s humid summer season.

Meet your guide at Uozaki Station on the Hanshin Line at 13:00, then begin your tasting journey:

Sakuramasamune Brewery (Established 1625)

One of the oldest breweries in the region, famous for its cherry blossom emblem and blend of tradition with modern flavor preferences. Sample fresh, elegant sake here.

Hamadaya (‘Kaku-uchi’ Style Bar)

This cozy, insider’s liquor store offers a unique “Kaku-uchi” tasting experience. Enjoy sake hand-selected by a passionate owner in a true local setting.

Hamafukutsuru Brewery (Since 1989)

Observe the live sake-making process from an overhead gallery. Sample unpasteurized sake and refreshing Yuzu sake, guided by an experienced brewmaster with decades of expertise.

Kikumasamune Brewery (Since 1659)

Renowned for the labor-intensive ‘Kimoto-method’ of brewing. Explore its museum filled with traditional sake tools, enjoy the tranquil Japanese garden, and taste sake born from generations of craftsmanship.

The tour concludes back at Uozaki Station around 16:30.

Note: One brewery may be substituted if it is closed. Please eat before joining. Comfortable walking shoes and a small backpack are recommended.

“We had the most wonderful day learning about the history and science of sake. We got to try so many delicious sakes! Romi was such a great guide — so welcoming and kind. Can 100% recommend the tour, you will have a brilliant time!”

“This was possibly the most enjoyable tour I have ever done. Our guide Romi was outstanding — knowledgeable, entertaining, enthusiastic, genuine, generous and considerate. We went to a variety of sake breweries, all with very high quality sake, and learned a lot about the brewing process, both now and through history. This tour totally exceeded my high expectations.”
