Full Description

Tofu is a cornerstone of Japanese cuisine, but many visitors are surprised to learn how different it is in Japan compared to what they’ve had abroad. This hands-on experience gives you the rare chance to make fresh tofu directly from soybeans—revealing the rich, creamy flavor and soft texture that defines authentic Japanese tofu.

The experience begins with an introduction to tofu’s cultural background, its role in Japanese cuisine, and a breakdown of soybean varieties. Under the supervision of a registered dietitian (RD), you’ll make your own tofu, learning each step of the process.

Once your tofu is ready, you’ll first taste it plain to appreciate its natural flavor, then enjoy it seasoned with three premium Japanese toppings. You’ll also get to sample fresh soy milk and silky oboro-dofu that are produced during the tofu-making process.

This experience is suitable for all dietary needs and offers a fun, educational, and delicious way to connect with Japanese food culture in the heart of Kyoto.
