Hitsujigaoka Snow Park first opened in 2004 as a family-oriented winter playground on the grounds of Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill. The event was created to let both locals and tourists enjoy Hokkaido’s abundant snow in a fun, accessible way while showcasing the scenic hill made famous by the statue of Dr. William S. Clark (“Boys, be ambitious!”).

The site itself has deeper roots: the Observation Hill opened in 1976 to honor Dr. Clark and promote Hokkaido agriculture and tourism, making the snow park a modern celebration on historic ground.
Hitsujigaoka Snow Park 2026 will run from mid-January to early March at Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill, turning the expansive grounds into a free winter activity zone. Once you pay the hill’s modest entrance fee, all snow play and equipment rental is completely free.
The park is perfect for families with young children, offering gentle slopes and safe zones for tubing, sledding, and first-time snow experiences. It also makes an easy half-day escape during the Sapporo Snow Festival period (February 4–11, 2026).
