Start by meeting your instructor near Horyuji Temple, one of Japan’s most historic sites. Begin with a brief explanation of the history of Japanese calligraphy and its cultural importance, then receive instruction on writing with a brush pen.
You’ll practice writing your name in the expressive “onore-sho” style, a form of calligraphy that reflects personal creativity and individuality. Unlike traditional calligraphy, this technique allows more freedom in artistic expression.
