Full Description

Upon arrival at Oboro, you’ll be welcomed into a softly illuminated, 100-year-old teahouse where traditional design and mindful simplicity meet. After a brief orientation and optional storage of personal items, you’ll begin your experience with a welcome tea and seasonal Japanese sweet, allowing your senses to settle into the quiet rhythm of the ceremony.

You’ll then enter the main tearoom, where minimal décor and candlelight help reduce distraction and draw attention to subtleties—such as the sound of simmering water, the scent of matcha, and the host’s fluid movements.

With grace and quiet focus, your host will purify the tea utensils, whisk fresh matcha, and offer each bowl with a ceremonial bow. You’ll lift the handcrafted bowl slowly, noticing its warmth and texture, before tasting the vibrant, earthy tea. There is no need to worry about perfect etiquette — this ceremony gently blends tradition with openness, allowing newcomers to participate comfortably.

Guests are welcome to observe in silence, ask questions, or simply sit in stillness. Every detail is designed to encourage presence, reflection, and appreciation for the moment.

Before the ceremony ends, you’ll receive a small handmade candle — a simple keepsake to take a piece of the peace home with you.
