The Story: Western Japan’s Flagship Summer Rock Gathering

First started in 2000 Monster Bash—sometimes called “Monbas” by fans—has become one of Japans local music festivals. It takes place on the island of Shikoku. The festival changed the soft green land of Sanuki Mannou National Park into a big place with many stages. For thirty years it has been a main place that music lovers, from Western Japan and other places come to.

What sets Monster Bash apart from urban stadium concerts is its distinct blend of open-air festival culture and natural beauty. Attending the festival allows fans to experience high-energy performances spanning Japanese rock, punk, pop, also acoustic sets within a traditional national park setting. The event is celebrated not only for its mainstream headliners but also for fostering unique collaborations and acoustic side projects, such as special session lineups and stripped-back sets from veteran rockers.

The 2026 edition is going to be really cool. It will have a lot of music genres playing over two days. On Saturday you can see bands like UVERworld, CreepHyp Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Macaroni Enpitsu and DISH// perform. They will also have bands like Shonan no Kaze, Sukima Switch and 04 Limited Sazabys playing.

On Sunday there will be great bands like ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION ELLEGARDEN, 10-FEET, sumika, LiSA and Straightener. The 2026 edition will also have some things like the PIANO baSH with Kiyozuka Shinya, on the piano and the Taku & Taku SESSION2026 where they will work together.
