Overview
The epic fantasy novel series The Twelve Kingdoms by Fuyumi Ono, with over 13 million copies sold, receives its world premiere musical adaptation in Musical “Twelve Kingdoms – Shadow of the Moon, Shadow of the Sea”, based on the first volume Shadow of the Moon, Sea of Shadow. This original production follows high school girl Yoko Nakajima (Youko), who is transported from Japan to the mystical Twelve Kingdoms—a parallel world of mythical beasts, divine creatures like Kirin, and political intrigue—where she must confront her destiny as a potential ruler amid trials of survival and self-discovery. The story explores themes of identity, power, and human nature across our world and the fantastical realm. Starring Hikaru Yuzuka as Youko in the other world and Ririka Kato as Yoko in Japan (double cast), Motohiro Ota and Akira Makishima as Rakushun (double cast), Yuki Tamaki, Maaya Harada, Shohei, Yuki Aiba, and others, the ~2.5-hour show features screenplay and lyrics by Tsuneyasu Motoyoshi, music by Erika Fukasawa, and direction by Kazuya Yamada. Praised on X for its “grand visuals” and “emotional depth,” this Toho production blends sweeping drama, orchestral scores, and choreography to bring Ono’s landmark fantasy to life. Premiering at Tokyo’s Nissay Theatre (~1,700 capacity) from December 9 to 29, 2025, it tours to Aichi’s Misonoza Theatre (~1,200 capacity), Osaka’s Umeda Arts Theater Main Hall (~1,900 capacity), and Fukuoka’s Hakataza Theatre (~800 capacity) from January to February 2026, following the series’ anime adaptation and 2019 novel revival.

Disclaimer
Jasumo offers a facilitation service for foreign tourists and non-Japanese residents in Japan, helping them access and apply for tickets to various events, including but not limited to sports, festivals, and cultural activities. We are not a reseller of tickets, nor do we sell tickets directly. Our role is to support international customers by guiding them through the official ticket booking process, ensuring they can secure their tickets through recognized platforms and authorized providers.
As a business based in Japan with a bilingual staff and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by non-Japanese visitors, we address common bottlenecks such as:
- Language Barriers: Navigating Japan’s primarily Japanese-language ticketing systems can be challenging for foreign tourists. Jasumo provides bilingual support to bridge this gap and ensure a smooth booking experience.
- Access to Japanese-Only Platforms: Many events in Japan require local knowledge to navigate and access, and often these platforms do not offer international payment options or are difficult to use for non-Japanese speakers. We facilitate the booking process by providing guidance and helping with international payment methods where applicable.
- Limited Availability & Complex Registration: Events in Japan often have limited capacity, and understanding the timing and process for securing tickets can be confusing for international visitors. Jasumo helps you manage deadlines and requirements, giving you the best chance of securing your entry.
Due to high demand for Musical “Twelve Kingdoms – Shadow of the Moon, Shadow of the Sea”, with critically low availability (e.g., Tokyo Pia full/half lotteries closing Sep 20), availability is not guaranteed. Refunds will only be issued if entries cannot be secured through official channels or in case of cancellation. We strongly recommend purchasing tickets by August 15, 2025, at official prices (~¥5,500–¥16,000) or monitoring official resale (~5 days prior to each show) to avoid inflated reseller prices (e.g., ¥20,000 for Tokyo S).
