Full Description

Start your journey with hotel pickup in Nagoya by your English-speaking guide and private driver. Your cultural exploration begins with a visit to a peaceful Buddhist temple, where you’ll participate in one of the following experiences based on your preference and availability:

  1. Japanese Calligraphy
  2. Matcha Tea Ceremony
  3. Zazen Meditation

Your top choice is prioritized, but may be adjusted depending on temple schedules.

After the cultural session, you’ll head to Magome, a charming Edo-period post town filled with old shops and traditional architecture. Learn about the area’s deep history and its importance in Japan’s timber trade.

From Magome, set off on a 5.8 km hike along the scenic Nakasendo Trail, a historic route once used by samurai and travelers. Walk through peaceful forests, along rivers, and over hills while soaking in the beauty and serenity of the Japanese countryside.

For those concerned about the trail’s incline, the pace is flexible, and the driver is on standby to assist at any point.

The hike concludes in Tsumago, a pristinely preserved Edo-period town. Wander cobbled streets lined with wooden inns, visit the original 300-year-old Waki Honjin samurai lodging, and immerse yourself in traditional Japanese life.

After your exploration, return to Nagoya in comfort by private car, with drop-off at your preferred location.

“The trip was a great way to travel through the old preserved post towns of Nakasendo at a leisurely pace without relying on public bus connections. Tomi our guide picked us up from our hotel with her husband Ken and we traveled in luxury air-con comfort. We stopped at a Buddhist Temple and experienced meditation. Tomi was very knowledgeable and relaxed — the entire day was so enjoyable.”

“Our guide, Tomika, was very knowledgeable. We had a phenomenal hike, lunch, and calligraphy experience. Highly recommend this tour!”

“Tomo and her husband Ken were amazing guides. This was a thoughtfully curated day for our family with zazen meditation, a traditional lunch in Magome, and a lovely two-hour hike on the famous Nakasendo trail. The drives were comfortable and informative — we learned so much history.”
