Step into the world of ninjas and create your own authentic weapon in a 120-year-old traditional machiya townhouse in Kyoto. This hands-on experience lets you forge a real shuriken or kunai while immersing yourself in centuries-old craftsmanship and warrior culture.
Begin your journey at Studio NIN, located in a beautifully preserved historic mansion in Kyoto. After arriving, you’ll choose your weapon: a shuriken (throwing star) or kunai (dagger-like blade). Please note there is an additional fee of ¥3,000 for the kunai option.
Before starting, suit up in a ninja-style uniform to get into the spirit. Your expert instructor will walk you through the basics of tool handling and traditional forging techniques. You’ll shape, heat, and temper real steel, then add your own custom pattern for a one-of-a-kind finish.
Once your weapon is complete, you’ll even get the chance to practice throwing it (safely and under supervision). Afterward, take time to explore the peaceful two gardens on the property, perfect for relaxing or snapping a few memorable photos.
Finally, your handcrafted ninja weapon will be boxed as a memorable souvenir—a unique piece of Japanese culture to bring home.
Important notice:
This workshop involves making actual weapons (shuriken or kunai). Please check your country’s import/customs regulations before booking. Refunds cannot be issued if your item is confiscated at the border.
From ¥23,000 per person
(An additional ¥3,000 applies if you choose to craft a kunai.)
