Your journey begins at Nishiki Tenmangū Shrine, a peaceful sanctuary tucked at the entrance of the bustling Nishiki area. This Shinto shrine is dedicated to Tenjin, the deity of learning, and offers a moment of calm before diving into Kyoto’s food scene.

From there, your guide will lead you into the Teramachi Shopping District, a vibrant arcade of shops selling everything from crafts to clothing and curiosities. This warm-up stroll introduces you to Kyoto’s everyday culture and sets the tone for the flavorful experience ahead.

Next, step into Nishiki Market, Kyoto’s “Kitchen.” This covered market street stretches over 400 meters and bursts with color, scent, and sound. Sample fresh seafood, grilled skewers, pickled vegetables, wagashi (traditional sweets), and other seasonal bites as your guide explains the significance behind each flavor and stall.
