Full Description

Begin your journey into Kyoto’s tea culture at a secluded teahouse located just across the road from Ryoan-ji Temple. This historic property, once a private residence, has been lovingly preserved and now welcomes guests seeking an authentic and tranquil experience.

Your session starts in the sofa room, where you’ll enjoy a welcome sweet—crafted by one of Kyoto’s most respected wagashi makers—while your instructor introduces the cultural roots of Japanese tea. This moment sets the tone for a reflective and elegant experience.

You’ll then move into the tatami tearoom, where your host will perform an authentic tea ceremony, set against the backdrop of a manicured inner garden. After being served a freshly whisked bowl of matcha, you’ll have the chance to prepare your own under the instructor’s guidance.

Whether you’re seated traditionally on the floor or using available chairs, the atmosphere remains serene and personal. Photography is welcome throughout, and your host is happy to answer questions about tea, history, or the ritual itself.

This private experience is perfect for those who want to connect deeply with Kyoto’s culture, without crowds or distractions. By participating, you also contribute to the preservation of this historic house.
