Stop 1: Kiyomizu Temple

Begin your day at the iconic Kiyomizu Temple, where you’ll learn about its historical significance. Discover the grand main gate, the inner temple halls, and the famous wooden observatory that overlooks Kyoto.

Stop 2: Ninenzaka & Sannenzaka Streets

Stroll through these historic lanes lined with charming food stalls and souvenir shops. This area retains the ambiance of old Kyoto and offers many photo opportunities.

Stop 3: Yasaka Shrine

Visit one of Kyoto’s most significant shrines at the edge of the Gion district. Learn the proper way to pray at a Shinto shrine and touch the sacred underground water believed to enhance beauty and well-being.

Stop 4: Gion District

Enter the heart of Gion, Kyoto’s famed geisha district. Walk past Minamiza Kabuki Theater and down Hanamikoji Street, where teahouses (ochaya) line the road. Explore the hidden alleys where geishas live and train. While sightings are rare during the day, the area comes alive with geisha appearances in the evening.

Optional Routes (Time Permitting)

If time allows, explore more of downtown Kyoto through Shin Kyogoku Street, Sanjo Street, Kiyamachi Street, and the scenic Ponto Street. These areas are filled with unique shops, cafes, and restaurants, ideal for a coffee break or casual lunch.

Final Stop: Nishiki Market

End your tour at the Nishiki Market, Kyoto’s famous food street. Sample a variety of delicious offerings including seafood, deep-fried treats, Japanese pickles, Karaage, Takoyaki, green tea desserts, and more. You’ll also find unique kitchenware like Japanese knives and traditional teacups.
