Full Description

Sumo is more than a sport—it’s a sacred ritual, a cultural tradition, and one of Japan’s most fascinating spectacles. This experience begins with a 1.5-hour guided walking tour through Ryogoku, the heartland of sumo since the Edo Period (over 400 years ago).

Your guide, a passionate local expert, will lead you through sites rich with history:

  • Ryōgoku Edo NOREN — a vibrant food and culture hub
  • Ekō-in Temple — spiritual site with deep ties to sumo
  • Sumo specialty stores and a traditional Japanese sweets shop

As you explore, you’ll learn how sumo evolved from a Shinto ritual into Japan’s national sport, the ranking systems of rikishi (wrestlers), and the customs that make each match a spiritual and athletic performance.

Then, the highlight of the tour—a reserved S-ranked ticket (2nd floor, Rows 1–3) at the Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Arena. These exclusive seats offer incredible views, typically difficult to secure without insider access.

Watch the action-packed tournament with a newfound appreciation as higher-ranked wrestlers compete in dramatic bouts. If timing aligns, you may even witness the rikishi arriving at the arena in traditional dress—an unforgettable sight.
