Highlights

  • Experience one of Japan’s most iconic sights – the Snow Walls of the Tateyama
  • Enjoy a unique variety of mountain transports to reach the summit of 2,450 meters
  • Witness the dramatic alpine landscape of Japan’s highest mountain range

Full Description

The tour starts from either Kanazawa or Toyama, not both on each day.

This tour begins at Kanazawa Station at 8:00 A.M. (or Toyama Station at 9:00 A.M.), where your guide will meet you in front of the Information Center near the Shinkansen Ticket Gates. You’ll have time to use coin lockers or forward your luggage to your next hotel if needed. Then, board the tour bus and head toward the Tateyama Alpine Route and the famous Snow Walls.

After about 1.5 hours, arrive at Oyama Shrine at the base of Mt. Tateyama. Historically, this was the starting point for many pilgrims. Explore Enma-do, a unique shrine dedicated to Enma, the god of judgment, and the symbolic bridge dividing the living world from the dead.

From there, travel up the mountain by bus, eventually reaching the iconic snow walls. These towering snow corridors vary in height throughout the year. At Murodo Station, enjoy a lunch break—either at a local restaurant or with your own packed bento. After lunch, walk along the Snow Wall Route. The walk takes around 35 minutes, but feel free to take your time.

Next, enjoy around 1.5 hours of free time to explore the breathtaking highlands of Murodo—the “Roof of Japan.” Take in panoramic alpine views, shop, build a snowman, or simply enjoy the pristine environment.

At 15:30, regroup and begin the descent via bus and cable car. You’ll arrive back in Kanazawa by around 19:00 (or Toyama by 18:30).

Note: Times are approximate and may vary due to weather or other local conditions.

Reviews

The trip took an unexpected turn when it rained and the van could not go up Mt. Tateyama. Our guide, Yuta, was excellent and accommodating, helping to check on conditions and eventually, we took the ropeway and bus up to the mountain. With the heavy rain and wind, he still made the entire trip enjoyable. Thank you.

We really enjoyed the day trip and would recommend it to others. Daniel, the tour guide, and the bus driver were very nice. It was a very nice day trip.
