Georgian polyphonic singing has UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status. Is loved by Japanese choral and classical music fans. Spirit of Georgia is a cultural partnership. It brings forty singers from Georgia’s two best choirs – the Georgian National Chamber Choir Trinity Cathedral and the Georgian National Folk Ensemble Basiani – to a Japanese stage for the first time. The Georgian government supports this event. Conductors Giorgi Donadze and Svimon Janglashvili guide the group as they perform hymns and traditional folk songs.
Japanese listeners are fascinate by choral harmonies and tours of this kind are very rare in Tokyo. The program shows this respect between cultures by mixing choral versions of traditional Japanese music with famous Georgian folk songs such, as Chakrulo and Hasanbegra.
Attending Spirit of Georgia gives travelers a chance to see two world‑renowned Georgian choirs together in one of Asia’s best acoustic halls.
