Full Description

Sumo is more than just a sport—it’s a sacred tradition deeply rooted in Japanese culture. In this unique workshop, you’ll gain insider knowledge from retired professional sumo wrestlers who bring humor, heart, and hands-on learning to every session.

Your experience begins with a warm welcome and a detailed explanation of sumo’s history, rituals, and techniques—all in English. You’ll watch live demonstrations and even have the chance to step into the ring for a lighthearted match. It’s not every day you get to “fight” a real sumo wrestler!

After the fun, you’ll sit down together to enjoy Chanko Nabe, a traditional hot pot dish eaten daily by sumo wrestlers during training. Made fresh by your hosts, this protein-rich meal is delicious, filling, and packed with cultural significance.

This experience takes place in Asakusa on Mondays and in Ryogoku (Tokyo’s sumo heartland) on Thursdays.
