What to Expect

• Live Training Observation: Witness a real morning practice session up close. Sumo wrestlers engage in serious and focused training that includes stretches, footwork, push drills, and bouts. This is the daily life of a sumo wrestler—raw, rigorous, and deeply traditional.
• Exclusive Access: Gain access to a sumo stable that is generally closed to the public. The chance to witness these practices is rare and highly respected in Japanese culture.
• Cultural Insight: Learn about the customs, rules, and discipline of sumo with an introduction from a staff guide (provided in English). While the practice itself is conducted in Japanese, the guide helps guests understand what they’re observing.
• Photo Opportunity (Conditional): If you stay until the end of the training and if conditions permit, you’ll have the chance to take a group photo with the sumo wrestlers. However, please note that photography is restricted during certain circumstances, especially if wrestlers leave early or if the practice ends abruptly.
• Respectful Environment: Training sessions are not staged for tourists. Visitors are guests at a working training stable and must observe quietly and respectfully. This is a deeply cultural experience, not a performance.

• Meeting Time & Place:
  Final meeting location and time will be confirmed via email 3 days before your scheduled tour. Expect to meet between 7:30 AM and 9:30 AM depending on the stable’s schedule.

• Tour Duration:
  Varies depending on the sumo stable’s schedule and the condition of the wrestlers, typically lasting 1.5 to 2 hours.
• Languages:
  • Practice is conducted in Japanese.
  • Guidance at the entrance is provided in basic English.
• Etiquette Guidelines:
  • Remain quiet and respectful throughout the session.
  • Do not talk loudly or make noise.
  • Phones must be silenced; no phone calls are allowed.
  • No flash photography; video recording is allowed only with permission.
  • Do not bring large bags or backpacks into the stable.
  • You must stay until the end of the tour to be included in the group photo.
  • Do not enter the training area unless instructed.
• Note: The session may be shortened or canceled due to the wrestlers’ condition or unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, photo sessions may not be available.
