Begin at the History Room, where you’re welcomed by a massive replica of the 10-yen coin featuring the Byodoin Phoenix Hall. Stroll through interactive digital exhibits, including a 4K HDTV display showcasing historical scenes of Uji and its tea legacy.
Then comes the hands-on highlight: grind matcha tea leaves into powder using a traditional stone mill. With the guidance of a Japanese tea instructor, you’ll learn how to brew your freshly ground matcha the authentic way — and enjoy your own creation right on the spot.
For those visiting in the summer, don’t miss the special 2:45 PM session where you can pour matcha over ice cream — to drink and eat it.
