Full Description

Sumo is one of Japan’s oldest and most revered traditions. At the Asakusa Sumo Club, you’ll be immersed in the history, techniques, and culture of sumo wrestling while enjoying a delicious sumo-style meal.

The experience begins with a graceful performance by geisha in stunning kimonos, followed by sumo demonstrations and real matches (tachiai) between retired professional wrestlers. You’ll learn about morning exercises (asa-geiko), essential techniques (kimarite), and the dos and don’ts of the sport through bilingual narration designed for both adults and children.

Feeling brave? Try your strength by stepping into the ring to face a sumo wrestler yourself! (Participation is limited and determined by lottery if demand is high.)

After the show, enjoy a Chanko-nabe (chicken hot pot) meal—just like the wrestlers eat—with optional all-you-can-eat dishes and beverages depending on your selected package.

Take home a souvenir set, including a wooden sake cup, hand towel, sticker, and a framed photo of you with the sumo wrestlers and geisha to remember this special cultural experience.

Note: This is an entertainment-based show performed by retired sumo wrestlers. If you are looking for an authentic training experience, consider visiting a sumo stable (beya) instead.
