Ukiyo-e (“pictures of the floating world”) flourished during the Edo period (1603–1868), capturing everyday life, landscapes, kabuki actors, and beauties in vivid woodblock prints. Masters like Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Hiroshige, and Kitagawa Utamaro turned affordable art into a cultural phenomenon that influenced Impressionists such as Van Gogh and Monet.

Contact Jasumo Now →The “Ukiyo-e Immersive Art” exhibition series began in Tokyo in 2019, using cutting-edge 3DCG and projection mapping to animate over 300 classic works. After sold-out runs in Tokyo and Fukuoka, the 2026 Osaka edition marks its Kansai debut, bringing Edo-period masterpieces to life in a 21st-century digital format while preserving original prints and historical context.
Ukiyo-e Immersive Art OSAKA 2026 runs from January 17 to March 14, 2026 at Grand Front Osaka’s Knowledge Capital Event Lab. Over 300 masterpieces by Hokusai, Hiroshige, Sharaku, and others are transformed into breathtaking 3D animations and floor-to-ceiling projections across 10 themed zones.
Visitors walk through dynamic scenes—The Great Wave crashing around them, Hiroshige’s stations of the Tokaido coming alive, kabuki actors leaping from the walls—while separate areas display rare Edo-period prints and provide cultural explanations. Photography is fully encouraged throughout.
