Full Itinerary

Your adventure begins at Ishigaki Port, where your English-speaking guide will meet you with a personalized welcome board. Your first stop is Torinji Temple, founded in 1614. Here, you’ll learn about the unique blend of Japanese Buddhism and Ryukyuan spirituality while admiring the temple’s ancient wooden architecture.

Next, you will head to Ishigaki Yaima Village. Wander through relocated historic homes where the sounds of the Sanshin (Okinawan banjo) fill the air. Don’t miss the chance to feed the friendly squirrel monkeys that roam the park. The tour then moves to the island’s “crown jewel,” Kabira Bay. While the strong currents make swimming prohibited, the view from the shore is legendary. You’ll have time to explore the white sands or browse for local black pearl jewelry.

The final portion of the tour takes you to the heights of Banna Mountain. From the observation deck, you can see the “emerald sea” stretching toward the horizon. If time permits, we will also stop at the Emerald Sea Observatory for one last photo opportunity before a relaxing drive back to the port, ensuring you arrive well before your ship’s “all aboard” time.

FAQs

Can we swim at Kabira Bay?

No, swimming is strictly prohibited at Kabira Bay due to strong currents and frequent boat traffic. However, the bay is perfect for photography and glass-bottom boat tours, which allow you to see the underwater world without getting wet.

What makes Ishigaki Yaima Village different from other museums?

It is a “living” museum. The houses are original structures moved from across the island to preserve Ryukyuan history. It is also famous for the squirrel monkey park, where the animals are very social and often jump onto visitors’ shoulders for photos.

Is the Banna Mountain Observation Deck accessible for seniors?

Yes, our vehicle drives nearly to the top of the observation area. There are well-maintained paths and ramps, making it a very accessible spot to enjoy the panoramic views of Ishigaki and the surrounding sea.

What is the local specialty to try in Ishigaki?

You should definitely look for Ishigaki Beef (premium wagyu) and Yaeyama Soba. Also, try the local Chinsuko (shortbread cookies) and anything made with the island’s famous purple sweet potatoes or sea salt.

What if the weather is not clear?

Ishigaki’s tropical weather can be unpredictable. If visibility is low at the mountain lookout, your guide will adjust the itinerary to spend more time at the cultural sites or the Yonekoyaki Pottery Studio, famous for its whimsical “Shisa” lion-dog statues.
