Full Description

Begin your morning at Ryogoku Station, the heart of sumo culture in Tokyo. Meet your friendly English-speaking guide at Exit A3 of the Oedo subway line, then enjoy a short 10-minute walk to Takasago-beya, a prestigious and historical sumo stable.

Once inside, you’ll be asked to observe silently and respectfully as the rikishi (wrestlers) engage in intense training. The practice includes warm-ups, foot stomping drills, strength training, and one-on-one sparring bouts. This is an authentic, non-touristy experience, offering you a genuine glimpse into the world of Japan’s national sport.

Your guide will provide insight into the traditions of sumo, including:

The ranking hierarchy (Yokozuna, Ozeki, Sekiwake, etc.)
Daily routines of sumo wrestlers
Cultural and religious significance of sumo
Why stables are essential for training and discipline

At the end of practice, you will be invited to take a group photo with the wrestlers (a voluntary gratuity of ¥1,000 per person is customary as a token of appreciation).

Please wear modest and quiet clothing (no flashy prints, hats, or sunglasses inside the stable)
Guests must remain silent and seated during training to show respect
Photography is allowed, but no flash or video recording
Children must be able to sit still during the session
Not wheelchair accessible due to traditional tatami seating area
