Tour Overview

This full-day sightseeing tour departs from Sapporo and covers some of southern Hokkaido’s most iconic and scenic attractions. From the serene beauty of Lake Toya to the dramatic volcanic landscape of Noboribetsu’s Jigokudani, you’ll experience the natural diversity that makes Hokkaido a top travel destination all year round.

The tour is perfect for first-time visitors or those looking to explore more of Hokkaido beyond the city. Transportation is provided by comfortable vehicles, with a bilingual tour guide accompanying you throughout the journey.

Itinerary & Highlights

1. Lake Toya Observation Deck & Meisui Park

  • Admire panoramic views of Lake Toya, one of Japan’s most beautiful caldera lakes formed by volcanic activity. The lake never freezes, even in winter, and offers year-round stunning reflections of surrounding mountains.
  • Visit Meisui Park, famous for its crystal-clear spring water flowing from underground rock layers. The park has pathways ideal for a leisurely walk and is often praised for its serene ambiance.
  • Learn about the local geology and legends associated with the lake.

2. Showa Shinzan Bear Ranch (Admission fee not included: approx. 850 yen)

  • Located at the base of Showa Shinzan, an active lava dome formed during World War II, the Bear Ranch is home to over 100 brown bears.
  • Watch the bears play, interact, and even perform tricks as they catch food tossed by visitors.
  • Bear feed is available via vending machines, and visitors are encouraged to try feeding the bears from a safe elevated viewing platform.
  • A fun, educational stop ideal for families and animal lovers.

3. Lake Hill Farm

  • Step into the peaceful countryside and enjoy a relaxing visit to this popular Hokkaido farm.
  • Sample freshly made dairy products, including their famous rich milk ice cream, cheese tarts, and yogurt.
  • The farm shop offers handmade local goods such as lavender-themed items, jams, and other souvenirs.
  • The surrounding flower fields (seasonal) make it a perfect photo opportunity in spring and summer.

4. Noboribetsu Jigokudani (Hell Valley)

  • Walk through a dramatic volcanic valley with steaming vents, boiling hot springs, and sulfurous streams.
  • The site is part of the active Noboribetsu volcanic zone and is considered one of Hokkaido’s most impressive geothermal areas.
  • Wooden walking trails guide visitors safely through the valley, offering up-close views of natural fumaroles and mud pools.
  • The strong smell of sulfur is a natural part of the experience and is said to have therapeutic effects.
