Overview
Discover the flavors and landscapes of Hokkaido’s Shakotan Peninsula and Yoichi region on this immersive one-day tour from Sapporo. Designed for food lovers, nature enthusiasts, and photographers alike, this tour offers the rare opportunity to taste freshly caught premium Shakotan sea urchin, enjoy seasonal fruit picking, and explore dramatic coastal views along the Shakotan Blue. You’ll also visit the historic Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery and end your day with panoramic views of Otaru City and the Sea of Japan from Tenguyama.
Tour Highlights
1. Seasonal Fruit Picking at Yoichi Orchard
Visit a local orchard that grows a variety of fruits including strawberries, cherries, peaches, plums, grapes, blueberries, Japanese pears, and apples (fruit availability varies by season). Enjoy picking and tasting fresh, organically grown fruit on-site.
Note: In case of poor growing conditions, the visit will be replaced with a tour of the Yoichi Winery.
2. Authentic Shakotan Sea Urchin Lunch (Optional, at your own expense)
Enjoy lunch at a renowned seaside restaurant offering freshly caught Shakotan purple sea urchin donburi, known for its sweet, rich flavor and freshness. Sea urchins are directly sourced by licensed Shakotan buyers and served unprocessed to preserve their natural taste.
- Purple sea urchin bowl: ¥6,000–¥10,000
- Horse dung sea urchin bowl: ¥9,000–¥12,000
Alternative seafood or cooked set meals are available for guests who do not eat sea urchin.
3. Cape Kamui Scenic Walk & Ice Cream Tasting
Take in sweeping coastal views from Cape Kamui, Hokkaido’s only designated marine park. Walk the cliffside trail overlooking the famous “Shakotan Blue” waters and try the popular Shakotan Blue Soft Ice Cream (optional).
Note: If Cape Kamui is closed due to weather, the itinerary may substitute with Yoichi Winery or Shimamui Coast.
4. Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery
Explore the historic Yoichi distillery founded by Masataka Taketsuru, the “Father of Japanese Whisky.” Learn about the traditional Scotch-inspired whisky-making process and sample or purchase exclusive whiskies on-site (at your own expense).
5. Otaru Tenguyama Scenic Cable Car Ride
End your day with a cable car ride up Mount Tengu, filming location of the Japanese drama First Love. Capture stunning views of Otaru City and the Sea of Japan from the observatory.
Note: If the cable car is closed, the route will be adjusted to visit the Otaru Canal and Sakaimachi Shopping Street.

“Small group, attentive guides, and a relaxed pace. Loved the whisky distillery and was lucky to try horse dung uni. Highly recommend this tour during summer!”
“We had only 8 people in our group and it felt very private. The fruit picking, whisky tasting, and scenic spots were all well paced. Great for couples or small groups!”
