Full Description
Bike Part
Start your journey with a guided bike ride through some of Kyoto’s lesser-known but beautiful areas. Begin along a tranquil riverside route and stop at a hidden shrine to sample pure natural spring water. Continue to the grand Kyoto Imperial Palace, then ride past a historic Zen temple and local university campuses.
The route winds through quiet residential neighborhoods before reaching Shimo-gamo Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its primeval forest and striking architecture. You’ll also visit a scenic river junction and follow a lighted riverside path on your return.
Walking Part
After returning the bikes, the group will enjoy a 30-minute stroll through Gion or Pontocho, Kyoto’s famous geisha entertainment districts. Admire the beautifully preserved architecture and lantern-lit alleyways as your guide explains the history and traditions of geisha culture. With some luck, you might even catch a glimpse of a maiko or geisha passing by.
Restaurant Tips
Your guide will provide recommendations for great places to eat and drink, based on your preferences. A wonderful way to wrap up your evening in Kyoto.
