Full Description

Step into the lush landscapes of Arashiyama on this guided walking tour that reveals both the iconic and the hidden sides of this tranquil Kyoto neighborhood. Begin your journey at Saga-Arashiyama Station, where your local bilingual guide will greet you.

Your first stop is the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, one of Japan’s most photographed natural sites. Meander through this serene, towering grove and continue to Nonomiya Shrine, tucked inside the forest.

Next, escape the crowds at the Okochi Sanso Garden, a peaceful villa once owned by a famous actor. Entry includes a complimentary green tea in the teahouse, offering a moment of calm with scenic views.

Continue to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tenryuji Temple, with its stunning Zen garden and tranquil koi pond. Learn stories of dragons, monks, and Kyoto’s spiritual traditions as you walk the grounds.

The tour continues with a stroll down Arashiyama’s lively shopping street, offering a chance to try local snacks, sweets, and grab a souvenir. Stop by the visually stunning Kimono Forest, a walkway of glowing kimono-patterned pillars.

Wrap up your journey with a light hike to the Iwatayama Monkey Park. After receiving your entrance ticket and insights from your guide, enjoy a self-guided walk up the forested trail. At the top, find over 100 Japanese macaques roaming freely and enjoy one of the best panoramic views of Kyoto.

“Incredible experience for all ages.”
Tom was amazing with our 9-year-old, even engaging her with Pokémon facts! Despite the summer heat, he kept the group happy and hydrated with frequent breaks.

Karim guided us through the heat with energy and humor. From the temples to the monkeys, the entire experience was unforgettable.

“Deep cultural insight.”
Our guide Toru made history come alive! We especially loved the bamboo forest and Tenryuji Temple—his story about the dragon was captivating.
