Full Description

Step into the world of traditional Japanese craftsmanship by creating your own Onigawara, the mythical demon-faced tile used to protect homes and temples. These guardian tiles have been part of Japan’s architectural heritage for over 1,400 years, often placed at the end of rooftops to ward off evil spirits and rain.

In this unique workshop, you’ll use a specially developed process that makes it easy for anyone—including children and beginners—to shape their own mini Onigawara. Under the guidance of a local expert, you’ll mold clay into a symbolic face of protection and strength.

After the session, your creation will be fired in a kiln and then mailed to you. In 1–2 months, it will transform into the classic silver-toned tile used in traditional buildings across Japan.

This is more than a craft—it’s a hands-on connection to Japanese history, and a powerful keepsake to remember your time in Kyoto.

Things to Note

  • Clay is used, so please wear clothes that can get a little dirty
  • The shipping fee for your completed Onigawara will be charged separately on the day
  • The final tile will be delivered internationally after firing (1–2 months later)

Pricing

From ¥13,000 per person
(Shipping fee not included; paid separately at the venue)
