Product Details / Description:

This lens completely changes the game for travel wildlife and distant-subject photography. Using diffractive optics and a fixed f/11 aperture, Canon created the world’s most portable 800 mm lens – small enough to fit in carry-on luggage and light enough to use all day without a monopod.

About the Product

Tourists use it to photograph red-crowned cranes dancing in Kushiro, wild deer in Nara without getting too close, bullet trains streaking past Mount Fuji, and even the International Space Station crossing the moon. The retractable design means you can keep it in your day bag and pull it out the moment something amazing appears on the horizon.

Modern Canon R-series bodies focus flawlessly at f/11 in daylight, and the 4-stop IS (up to 8 stops with IBIS) produces tack-sharp results at surprisingly slow shutter speeds.

FAQs:

Is 800 mm at f/11 actually usable in real-world travel?

Yes – in daylight and with modern R bodies (R5, R6 II, R8, etc.) it focuses quickly and delivers extremely sharp results.

Can I add extenders for 1200 mm or 1600 mm?

Yes – it accepts the RF 1.4× (1120 mm f/16) and RF 2× (1600 mm f/22) with surprisingly good image quality.

How portable is it when retracted?

Only 28 cm long and 1260 g – fits easily in most camera backpacks or even a large sling.

Is the built-in hood enough, or do I need something bigger?

The included ET-101 hood is excellent and reverses for storage. No extra hood needed.

Will it balance on my Canon R8 or RP?

Yes – the lens is surprisingly well-balanced on all RF bodies, even smaller ones, thanks to its light weight.
