Quartet Fuga was forme by violinists Mako Ochiai and Kentaro Konishi violist Soichiro Kawabe and cellist Soichiro Matsutani all fellows of the Suntory Hall Chamber Music Academy. In 2026 Quartet Fuga achieved international acclaim. Quartet Fuga won prize at the 12th Osaka International Chamber Music Competition tying the highest rank ever recorded by a Japanese string quartet in the history of that competition. I feel proud to share the story of Quartet Fuga.

Quartet Fuga continued success by securing third prize at the prestigious 75th ARD Munich International Music Competition in Germany. These consecutive triumphs established Quartet Fuga as one of the prominent young classical ensembles in Japan. This special recital at Suntory Hall Blue Rose serves as a concert before Quartet Fuga members relocate to Europe to continue their postgraduate chamber music studies at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media.

The Tokyo performance features the program that brought Quartet Fuga international honors, including Bartók’s String Quartet No. 5 Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 12 And Kenji Sakais commissioned work Floating Particles.
