Good to Know

The “maze-like” structure of Himeji Castle was an ingenious defensive feature, intentionally designed to confuse intruders. Narrow stairways, sudden turns, and complex passageways made advancing toward the keep difficult and dangerous.
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as the castle grounds include uneven surfaces and many stairs.
