Product Details / Description:

This lens completely redefines what a 600 mm super-telephoto can be: instead of a giant white barrel that needs a monopod, you get a collapsible black tube you can toss in your day bag and pull out whenever something far away catches your eye.

About the Product

Thanks to the diffractive optics (DO) design and fixed f/11 aperture, Canon made a 600 mm lens shorter and lighter than most standard zooms. Tourists love it for wildlife parks (Nara deer, Jigokudani snow monkeys), air shows, moon photography, and distant cityscapes of Mount Fuji.

Even though it’s “only” f/11, modern Canon R-series bodies focus perfectly in daylight and dusk, and the 5-stop IS lets you shoot handheld at surprisingly slow shutter speeds.

FAQs:

Is f/11 too dark for wildlife photography?

Not in daylight – modern Canon R bodies focus perfectly at f/11, and the 5-stop IS lets you handhold at 1/60 s or slower.

Can I use this lens in low light or at night?

It’s best in good light. For dusk or indoor use, the RF 800 mm f/11 or faster lenses are better choices.

Does it accept teleconverters?

Yes – add the RF 1.4× for 840 mm or RF 2× for 1200 mm (both f/16 or f/22).

How small is it when retracted?

Only 20 cm long – easily fits in a sling bag or even a large jacket pocket.

Is the lens sharp at 600 mm?

Yes – surprisingly sharp in the center, especially when stopped down slightly using ISO or shutter speed control. Most users are amazed by the detail.
