Full Itinerary

Your exploration begins at Hitachinaka Port, where your English-speaking guide and driver will welcome you. A short, comfortable drive brings you to Hitachi Seaside Park. Depending on the time of year, you will witness one of nature’s great spectacles. In mid-April, the park is famous for its “Nemophila Harmony,” where 4.5 million blue flowers blend seamlessly with the sky and sea. You’ll have ample time to walk the gentle paths of Miharashi Hill and capture world-class photographs.

Next, you will travel to Kairakuen Garden in nearby Mito City. Unlike most private gardens of the time, Kairakuen was designed to be enjoyed by the local people as well as the samurai class. Your guide will walk you through the “Kobuntei,” a beautiful three-story traditional building, and explain the significance of the garden’s 3,000 plum trees. You’ll also wander through a cooling bamboo forest and past tranquil cedar groves that provide a peaceful contrast to the bright colors of the seaside park.

After immersing yourself in the history and beauty of Ibaraki Prefecture, you will enjoy a relaxing drive back to the port. Your guide will ensure you arrive at the Hitachinaka terminal with plenty of time to spare before the ship’s departure.

FAQs

What flowers will be in bloom during the April 18th tour?

Mid-April is the prime season for Nemophila (Baby Blue Eyes) at Hitachi Seaside Park. You can also expect to see vibrant tulips and late-blooming narcissus. At Kairakuen, while the plum blossoms typically peak in March, the garden remains lush and beautiful with fresh spring greenery.

How much walking is involved?

The activity level is rated as “Easy to Moderate.” Hitachi Seaside Park is vast, but the paths are wide and relatively flat. Kairakuen has some gentle slopes and steps. However, since this is a private tour, your guide can adjust the pace to suit your comfort level.

Is Hitachi Seaside Park far from the cruise port?

The park is conveniently located just 15–20 minutes from the Hitachinaka cruise pier, making it an ideal destination for a shore excursion. This proximity allows us to maximize your time in the gardens rather than in transit.

What happens if the flowers aren’t in bloom?

Nature can be unpredictable, but Hitachi Seaside Park is designed to have floral interest year-round. If one species is late, others are usually prepared. Your licensed guide is an expert at finding the most beautiful spots in the park regardless of the exact bloom stage.

Can we see the “Three Great Gardens” in one trip?

The other two great gardens (Kenrokuen in Kanazawa and Korakuen in Okayama) are in different parts of Japan. Kairakuen is the only one accessible from the Hitachinaka port, making it a “must-see” for garden enthusiasts docking in this region.
