Full Description

Step into a world of timeless grace at this exclusive tea ceremony held in the private residence of a Urasenke tea master, located beside the Kyoto Imperial Palace.

Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed into the tea master’s home and invited to change into traditional tabi socks, provided as part of the experience.

Your host will explain the philosophy, etiquette, and health benefits of matcha in fluent English. You’ll then be guided into the serene chashitsu — a tatami-floored tea room — where you can sit in seiza (kneeling) or cross-legged, depending on your comfort.

The ceremony begins with the serving of seasonal omogashi (traditional Japanese sweets), followed by a moment of quiet reflection. Watch as the tea master performs temae, the formal tea-making ritual, using elegant, inherited utensils. You’ll be served a bowl of premium matcha, carefully prepared for you.

After enjoying a serving of delicate higashi (dry sweets), you’ll have the rare opportunity to whisk your own bowl of matcha under the guidance of the tea master — a meditative practice that embodies harmony and mindfulness.

This experience is suitable for both individuals and families, including children, who wish to explore a deeper cultural connection through one of Kyoto’s most graceful traditions.
